Furever Foster Application

Each year we select a few special families to love, raise and care for our chosen breeding prospect puppies. These puppies are pick of the litter, our absolute best puppies chosen with special care and taking a variety of important elements into consideration. Our hopes and dreams and future of our breeding program rests within them. As a Furever Foster you will have one of these special von shap puppies placed with you that will be yours to keep according to our breeding contract. You will be responsible for all normal routine veterinary care, feeding, socialization, training, etc as expected for a pet. We are also now requiring all Von Shap breeding dogs to attend puppy socializing and then complete a Canine Good Citizen training class in order to pass the test and receive the official CGC title. This is usually a 6 week class that meets once per week, with a test at the end. Our goal is to have a happy, well socialized dog which is an important part of dog ownership and will benefit you and your Von Shap puppy.

Von Shap will be responsible for costs associated with your puppy’s breeding soundness including any x-rays or genetic testing as well as costs related to Breeding and Whelping.

Your Puppy will live with you its entire life, only coming to our kennel for the purposes of breeding and whelping, and/or training/showing if applicable and then returning to you.

Fosters of males must have him available as needed and can expect their male to be at our kennel from 4-7 days when breeding a female. Because we usually have multiple males in our breeding program, we do not have to use any one specific male often. However the number of times a year a male may be needed for breeding varies depending upon our program goals, and if we do any mating with approved females from outside our breeding program. Typically a male will be used 1-3 times per year.

Fosters of females can expect their girl to have one litter each year usually beginning around age 2. The female will be at Von Shap for breeding then return to her foster until one week prior to whelping at which time she will come to Von Shap and be housed in the puppy nursery. She will stay with her pups until weaning, about 6-7 weeks. Fosters are welcome to come and see their female at any time and can assist in training and socializing the puppies. Many of our fosters truly enjoy this experience. We typically retire our girls by age 6 and at that time she will become the sole property of her guardian home.

In addition, fosters of our females enjoy a money bonus from each litter she has during her time in our breeding program.
